What is a portable dehumidifier?

As the name suggests, a portable dehumidifier works to reduce and eliminate humidity from musty basements or from any part of your home with high humidity. The portable dehumidifier sits nicely on sturdy wheels and can be easily moved from room to room. It is designed to work in temperatures between 41°F (5°C) and 89°F (32°C).   These are some #1 Google PR Listicles on which Honeywell Air Comfort was featured on -   - Honeywell Portable dehumidifiers have been recognized among the top picks in the “Best Dehumidifiers” by DehumidifierBuyersGuide.com

What kind of setup is required?

A room dehumidifier is easy to set up and does not require any installation. Just remember to close all windows and doors in order for the unit to successfully work as required. It is important that the dehumidifier is in an enclosed area at all times during operation.

What is the difference between a compressor and a desiccant dehumidifier?

A compressor dehumidifier works by using condensation to extract water from the atmosphere. The dehumidifier draws in warm, humid air, which then passes over a refrigerated coil. When warm air passes over the coil, moisture is removed from the air via condensation. Large capacity dehumidifiers like whole house dehumidifier and basement dehumidifier are compressor based.

A desiccant dehumidifier uses adsorption, a process in which liquid molecules adhere to a surface. Humid air is drawn into the dehumidifier and passed over a desiccant wheel containing silica gel, which adsorbs excess humidity. The air dehumidifier then outputs dry, warm air.

Why is my dehumidifier reading incorrectly based on a separate hygrometer?

There is a 5% rule regarding a built-in humidistat versus a hygrometer.  ⦁ If the readings on the hygrometer and the humidistat are within about 5%-8% of each other, your dehumidifier’s humidity sensor is working properly.

It’s important to place the hygrometer by the dehumidifier’s humidistat (normally located on the coils by the filter) for the most accurate reading.

Why is my dehumidifier leaking?

If you have a dehumidifier model with a splash guard:  ⦁ Make sure the splash guard is properly positioned and clipped into the tank.  ⦁ To establish whether the splash guard is causing the leak, remove the splash guard and operate the unit without it for about 2 hours. If the unit does not leak, the splash guard is causing the leak.

Check to ensure that the foam float inside the water tank is positioned correctly, lying level with the top edge of the water tank.

Inspect the water tank for any possible cracks or leaks.

What kind of maintenance is required for my dehumidifier for bathroom?

It is recommended to clean the filter every two weeks. You can wash it with water, but it is important to allow the filter to dry before replacing it in the unit. You can also use a vacuum to clean the filter. When you are finished with the dehumidifier for the season, be sure to empty any water that has been collected in the water bin. Disconnect the hose if you used one, and make sure you replace the drain cap and rubber stopper back into the drain outlet. Make sure you store the unit in a cool place away from sunlight.

Are portable dehumidifiers energy efficient?

Honeywell Portable Dehumidifiers are top rated dehumidifier and Energy Star Certified. They are some of the most energy efficient dehumidifiers. Find an Energy Star Dehumidifier on HoneywellAirComfort.com.

How do I empty the water tank?

When the water tank reaches capacity, the unit will shut off until it is emptied. There is also the option to attach a garden hose to redirect drainage and allow the dehumidifier to run without interruption. If you choose to attach a hose, you will need to ensure that the hose is free of kinks and that it drains into a reliable receptible, like a sink.

How do I set up my dehumidifier for continuous drainage?

To set up your portable dehumidifier for continuous water drainage, locate the drain outlet at the back of the unit. Next, unscrew and remove the drain cap. Then, screw the continuous water drain tube onto the direct drain outlet.

Once you have attached the drain hose to your dehumidifier, position the other end of the tube over a sink or drain, making sure the tube is secure. The tube should be directed downward as gravity is required to pull the water through the tube into the drain. Ensure the tube is not bent or kinked as this could stop the flow of water.

How do I set up the dehumidifier smart app?

Watch the below video and follow the step-by-step process to set up your smart dehumidifier app for easy connectivity and to easily control settings through your mobile device.    Honeywell Smart WiFi-Enabled Portable Dehumidifiers App Set Up Video.

How can I extend the drain tube for continuous draining?

It is recommended to use the drain tubes that come packaged with the dehumidifier, but if you must extend it, you can connect a standard garden hose to the drain outlet to extend the gravity drain function. You must cut it short to be no more than 5 feet, and the hose must not have any flat sections that can cause water to be stuck in the hose – which will cause malfunction of the unit. Ensure that the gravity drain outlet is raised above the drain hole or bucket to ensure the garden hose always runs downwards from the dehumidifier outlet to the drain hole.

Can I use an extension cord with my dehumidifier for bedroom?

Do not use an extension cord with your Honeywell Portable Dehumidifier. Using an extension cord will void the manufacturer’s warranty.

My dehumidifier arrived upside down or on its back. Can I still use it?

Before using the dehumidifier, place it upright for a minimum of 1 hour to allow the refrigerant to stabilize.

What should I do if the filter light on my TP Series dehumidifier comes on?

After removing the filter and cleaning it per the manual’s instructions, you must press the filter button located on the display screen for the light to disappear.

How can I prevent mildew and bacteria from forming?

To avoid mildew, mold or bacteria growth in the dehumidifier water tank, it is important to empty condensation water weekly and do not let water sit for long periods of time. You can add a small amount of vinegar to a full bucket of water and let it sit overnight. Discard the vinegar water after 24 hours and use a clean towel or soft sponge to gently scrub the inside of the tank and then rinse clean and re-install the tank back onto the dehumidifier.    Also, be sure to follow best maintenance practices by removing the water tank and letting it fully dry before storing or leaving it un-used at the end of the season to prevent mildew growth.
