What is an evaporative air cooler?
Honeywell Evaporative Air Coolers are an environmentally friendly and cost-friendly cooling option for your home or office. Much like a breeze flowing across a lake or the refreshing cool air you feel near a waterfall, air coolers produce a comfortable, cool breeze through the natural process of water evaporation.
How do they work?
When warm air is drawn into a Honeywell Air Cooler, it passes through a wet honeycomb cooling media. As it passes through it mixes with the water held in the honeycomb, causing the water to evaporate and lose heat, resulting in cooler, moisturized air. A powerful fan then propels the cool air into the room or outdoor area.
The result is a constant flow of fresh, moisturized, cool air, while old and stale air is circulated out of the room.
Are Evaporative Air Coolers Right for your home?
What you need to know before buying:
HONEYCOMB COOLING MEDIA
Honeywell Air Coolers use a unique honeycomb cooling media. The cooling efficiency is much higher than other cooling media due to greater surface area for the transfer of humidity to the passing air.
SUITABLE FOR DRY CLIMATES. BOOSTS ROOM HUMIDITY.
Evaporative air coolers are most effective in areas with a maximum relative humidity level of 60% or less. Warm, dry air is important for more effective evaporative cooling, and the temperature decrease will be greater in drier climates because evaporation occurs at higher rates where the humidity is low. For example, air coolers would be more effective cooling areas in a desert or in drier central regions compared to coastal regions. Evaporative air coolers produce moisture and can be used to increase humidification in a room. They are perfect to maintain a cool breeze and increase comfort in homes located in dry regions.
REQUIRE CROSS VENTILATION
Evaporative Air Coolers should not be used in enclosed spaces. Doors and windows should be opened to allow free airflow. An air cooler works best when placed near an open window, drawing in outside air and circulating it in the room before exiting via a window or door. The maximum cooling effect is felt when a person is near the flow of air coming out of the air cooler.
LOW PURCHASE COST
Air coolers are a budget-friendly cooling option because they are affordable to purchase and affordable to operate. LOW
ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION
Honeywell Air Coolers consume very little electricity. Running an air cooler requires significantly less electricity than running an air conditioning unit. Therefore, air coolers are often the preferred cooling option in cities where electricity costs are high.
How are they different from a fan or AC?
There is often confusion about the difference between an evaporative air cooler versus a classic fan and a window or split air conditioner.
AN AIR COOLER IS NOT “JUST A FAN”
Air coolers use the natural process of water evaporation to cool incoming hot air and use a powerful fan to expel the newly cooled air. The temperature of dry air can drop significantly when liquid water transforms to water vapor through evaporation.
AN AIR COOLER IS NOT A MIST FAN
Mist fans are mainly for outdoor use, unless you want your fan to give you a surprise shower in your living room. It also has to be very hot and very dry for the water to evaporate completely without making a puddle on the ground around the mist fan base. Mist fans also need a constant water connection. There's no tank, so you can only use them if you have a water connection nearby where you intend to use the fan.
AN AIR COOLER IS NOT AN AIR CONDITIONER
Air conditioners are built with power-hungry compressors and require a chemical cooling refrigerant to absorb and condense hot air into cool air. The hot air must be released outside the room. The more complex composition of air conditioners also make them more expensive to purchase, and they consume significantly higher electricity during use.
How to choose the right evaporative air cooler
It is important to choose the right sized air cooler for the room you want to cool. The below guide can help you choose the right cooler for your space:
AIR FLOW
Look at the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of the air cooler. The CFM is the amount of air that passes through the air cooler per minute. The higher an air cooler's CFM rating, the faster it cools the air, providing better coverage for the space you want to cool.
WATER TANK CAPACITY
Consider the water tank capacity of an air cooler. The tank capacity offers a quick idea of how large a space the cooler will cool. Some room coolers and outdoor coolers have a built-in continuous water supply connection that allows you to connect with your home’s water hose for continuous tank refills. You can find a simple guide below for choosing an air cooler based on tank size:
PRODUCT FEATURES
Honeywell Air Coolers have a wide range of models to suit diverse needs. You can choose different models depending on the features that suit your needs best.
Indoor or Outdoor Use Choose from the Indoor Spot Coolers or Room Coolers or the Outdoor Cooler series that are built to last rain or shine.
Continuous Water Supply These models give you the option to connect to your home’s garden hose for hassle-free, continuous water tank refills.
Digital Controls Models with digital controls offer more advanced settings, including remote control, timer control, and low-water alarms.
Timer Models with timers let you program the cooler to turn off at specific times for convenience and to help save energy.
Low-water Alarm Models with a low-water alarm warn you when the water tank needs to be refilled for easy maintenance.
Louvers All Honeywell Air Cooler models offer swing louvers. Some offer special louver functions, such as the CL70PE/ CO70PE’s auto-close shutters or the CL18PE’s 360 degree rotating louvers.
Ice Compartment Choose models with an added ice compartment to add ice for faster cooling when needed.
Carbon Dust Filter A carbon filter is included in selected models of Honeywell Air Coolers, trapping dust, mosquitos, and unwanted particles from passing through the air cooler.
